Matisse Museum (Nice) - Upon arrival in the exclusive Cimiez Hill district, you will visit the Matisse Museum. Housed in the 17th century Arena VIlla, this exquisite collection details the great master's works from the late 19th century until his death in 1954. Founded in 1964, it is a temple of 20th century art marrying the arc-and-plane architecture of José Maria Sert; looming sculptures by Miro and Moore and the late-life masterzork by Chagall called La Vie. Giacometti's figures stride in the courtyard, Miroùs Egg emerges from the pool and mobiles by Calder and Arp shift in the breeze. Inside is an ever-changing feast of works by Braque, Léger, Dubuffet and other 20th century masters.
