With 280 fountains - each magnificent in design and abundant in history and local legend, fountains have always been an integral feature of ancient and modern Rome. On this tour, we will visit five fountains: Baracaccia, Neptune, Piazza Farnese, Trevi and Turtles in the Ghetto. These span areas from the Quirinale and Spanish Steps to the Ghetto. You'll understand how each served a specific function in development of what is today's Rome.
Your expert guide will explain the genesis of Rome's need for water, the extensive ancient system of 11 aqueducts, which purportedly supplied up to 38 million gallons of water a day and the design and history of each of the fountains you'll be visiting.
